SWK CELEBRATING SMART GR2W INVESTMENTS

The South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council (SWK EDC) is excited to celebrate a number of regional announcements that continue to demonstrate a commitment to the “GR2W” initiative.  The GR2W is a comprehensive effort to ensure that SWK communities are “getting ready to win” by focusing on infrastructure, workforce, quality of life, and product development.

In particular, infrastructure decisions are vital to ensuring communities and industrial sites are prepared to meet the speed to market needs of today’s companies.  SWK regional leadership continues to demonstrate such understanding.

Some recent decisions and investments worth highlighting include:

  • 3-county decision to use federal COVID-relief dollars to improve broadband access throughout the region in a partnership with Pennyrile Electric Cooperative and Hopkinsville Electric System!
  • Recent opening of the new Cadiz Water Treatment plant at the I-24 Business Park in Trigg County increasing capacity at the park!
  • Continued construction of the Hammond Wood Wastewater Treatment Facility in Hopkinsville more than doubling the community’s current capacity!
  • Beginning construction on the 100,000+ expandable spec building in Christian County!
  • Applying for 2021 TVA Invest Prep grants for projects in Christian, Todd, and Trigg Counties!
  • Announcement of the HWY 79 BUILD grant for road improvements in South Todd County related to economic development activity!
  • Advocating for the 2021 Interstate-24 Industrial Connector RAISE grant for Christian County’s Commerce Park I and II as well as improvements to HWY 115!
  • Proposing low property tax rates securing the region’s continued ranking as one of the most affordable regions to live and do business!

These investments/ planned investments represent over $100M in local, state, and federal revenue invested to improve the quality of life of our current residents and to help pave the way for future job growth and economic development.   As our residents and over 60 manufacturers and industries have already found, the SWK region is a less taxing, more relaxing environment fueled by a young and growing workforce with strong ties to the military, agriculture, and manufacturing.  For more information on this release, the SWK EDC, the region, and available sites, please contact 270-885-1499 or visit www.southwesternky.com.
