The South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council (SWK EDC) recently reviewed United States Census information as released and highlighted by the Kentucky State Data Center (KSDC). The KSDC report is based on census estimates from 2020-2023.

As noted in the data, Elkton is the third fastest-growing city in Kentucky growing by 8.3% while Cadiz is the sixth fastest-growing city at a 6.9% pace since the last official census count in 2020. Elkton Mayor Arthur Green commented, “We are pleased to see so many people choosing Elkton as their new home. With our outstanding quality of life, low cost of living, and family-friendly community, we are eager to welcome even more new residents to our community.”

Trigg County Judge Executive Stan Humphries shared, “Cadiz-Trigg County and all South Western Kentucky are incredible places to live, work, and invest. With abundant outdoor recreation and little to no congestion, our region truly lives up to our less taxing, more relaxing reputation.”

Overall, the South Western Kentucky region continues to enjoy strong regional economic growth with Hopkinsville, the region’s largest city, on pace to set new records in total equivalent payroll, total revenue collected, and overall new manufacturing jobs created since 2020. Oak Grove, the region’s second-largest city, has helped fuel the region’s tourism growth helping Christian County celebrate its third consecutive year of record tourism receipts.

“Our regional economy is on fire because of the strong collaboration and partnerships between our local governments, chambers of commerce, tourism, and visitor bureaus, utility companies, workforce and education institutions, and related organizations committed to growing our economy, creating more jobs, raising wages, increasing investment, and improving the quality of life for all current and future residents of South Western Kentucky.

We invite more companies and people to move to South Western Kentucky and enjoy the benefits of our award-winning communities,” stated Carter Hendricks, Executive Director of the South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council.
