South Western Kentucky Announces Progress Being Made on Electric Highways
SWK EDC partnering with three county-regional leadership to ensure the region is prepared for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing.
The South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council is pleased to announce that several important milestones have already been met in the region’s Charged and Ready initiative, including:
- Local utility providers and TVA have created the strategic plan for the electric highway network in South Western Kentucky by identifying several sites suitable for fast charge stations for Electric Vehicles. The SWK region will now pursue available grant dollars to assist in the implementation of the Electric Highway in the region.
- The SWK EDC has launched a marketing web page dedicated to our region’s advantages as related to electric vehicles. Visit the page at www.southwesternky.com/site-selection/electric-vehicles.
- Discussions continue with local educations partners with several institutions actively designing training and curriculum to launch in 2022 for the future EV workforce.
Additionally, the region has a variety of available industrial development and manufacturing sites including a 100,000 sft spec building, Kentucky certified build ready sites, interstate sites, and a 1300+ acre mega rail site that are perfectly positioned in the South’s Auto Alley and the emerging EV cluster.
SWK EDC Executive Director Carter Hendricks stated, “Our region is within 300 miles from several recently announced electric vehicle projects including the Ford/SK project and more recent news from Rivian. We anticipate even more opportunities and look forward to helping electric vehicle related companies and auto parts suppliers take full advantage of our geography, strong workforce, available sites, aggressive incentives, and our outstanding quality of life in a less taxing, more relaxing environment.”
