Christian County is Youngest in State of Kentucky
The South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council (SWK EDC) is excited to announce that, according to the online publication 24/7, Christian County boasts the youngest population in the state of Kentucky. Meanwhile, neighboring Montgomery Count has the youngest population in the state of Tennessee.
Christian County claims a median age of 28.3 years old which is a full ten years younger than the state average of 38.9 years old. While only 12% of the population is found to be 65 and older which is 4% below the state average.
This young and growing population is driven by the region’s proximity to Fort Campbell and the over 27,000 soldiers and family members stationed at the installation. Additionally, the region benefits from the young population drawn to the ample outdoor recreation opportunities, close proximity to Nashville, and the over 200 colleges and universities within a 200-mile radius of the South Western Kentucky region.
Christian County Judge Executive Steve Tribble commented, “We aren’t surprised by these census numbers indicating our young and vibrant workforce. With our region’s awesome quality of life, low cost of living, and even lower taxes, it makes sense that young professionals and military members enjoy calling our region home!”
As over 60 manufacturers and industries have already found, the SWK region is a less taxing, more relaxing environment fueled by a young and growing workforce with strong ties to the military, agriculture, and manufacturing.
