Empowering South Western Kentucky’s Workforce for Industry Excellence
WorkSWK is South Western Kentucky’s workforce development initiative, designed to bridge the gap between regional employers and job seekers across key industries, including manufacturing, automotive, agriculture, aerospace, defense, and electric vehicles (EV). Through tailored training programs, job placement services, and partnerships with educational institutions and local businesses, WorkSWK ensures that South Western Kentucky’s workforce is equipped to meet the evolving needs of the region’s growing economy.
The SWK Ignite initiative is a partnership between the South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council, regional public schools, Pennyrile Industrial Managers Association (PIMA), SHRM-WKY, regional Chambers of Commerce, West Kentucky Workforce Investment Board, and Hopkinsville Community College.
Since launching SWK IGNITE, regional partners have implemented various strategies to better assist students with career learning opportunities, the development of job skills, and opportunities to maximize their career earnings when entering the workforce.
Specific activities include tours of regional industries, industry-in-the-classroom presentations, career days, internships and apprenticeships, and an annual spring job fair for graduating students not planning to attend higher education or join the military after high school.
The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) provides information and training to ensure transitioning Soldiers, Department of the Army Civilians, Retirees, Soldiers’ Family members, and Caregivers are prepared for their next step in life - whether pursuing additional education, finding a job in the public or private sector, or starting their own business.
TAP is a Commander’s Program and a Soldier’s responsibility and is administered locally at the Fort Campbell Transition Assistance Program Center, or at the 24/ 7 TAP Virtual Center ✪ for those more than 50 miles from any military installation offering Transition Assistance classes. The mandatory components of TAP are applicable for all service members who have at least 180 continuous days or more on active duty; this includes National Guard and Reserve serving on Title 10 status. Going early and often to TAP has statistically proven to increase the chance of post-transition success for Soldiers. TAP requirements need to be completed much earlier to begin the job search at this six-month mark with the documents and knowledge needed to successfully search for open positions.
The Fort Campbell TAP Center serves approximately 8,000 Soldiers, Civilians, and Family Members each year.
TAP enables Soldiers to capitalize on their Army experience and skills and to make informed decisions using transition program services – setting Soldiers up for success
HOPFAME is the HCC chapter of FAME USA and is a partnership of regional manufacturers whose purpose is to implement apprentice-style training to create a pipeline of highly-skilled workers. The concept offers a five-semester college degree program that matches higher education with continuous real-world experience.
