SWK Finishes Fiscal Year with Momentum
Economic and GR2W Update
The South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council (SWK EDC) is nearing the end of the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Recently, staff provided a mid-year update to its Board of Directors and sought approval of the 2024-2025 operating budget.
SWK EDC Executive Director Carter Hendricks stated, “We appreciate the continued support of our board of directors, local leaders, and regional partners. We enjoyed a strong year financially while continuing to see a strong economy as indicated by record wages, tourism receipts, and population growth. With this approved budget, we will continue to implement our strategic plan while focusing on marketing and recruitment strategies that are proven and affordable.”
The SWK region has recently been touted for strong economic indicators, including the #3 fastest growing city in the state (Elkton), the #6 fastest growing city in the state (Cadiz), and the #9 most tourism receipts in the state (Christian County).
With current and recently announced economic development activity, the South Western Kentucky region continues to see significant investment and job creation with over $1.2B in current construction projects and over 1000 new jobs being added to the regional labor shed in the next eighteen months.
Additionally, the South Western Kentucky region continues to invest in its “Getting Ready to Win” (GR2W) initiative focused on infrastructure, workforce, and site development. Since 2022, the region has received over $100M in grants and support for key infrastructure, workforce training, and industrial site development.
“We are fortunate to have local, regional, and state leadership that understands and are willing to invest in the key attributes that create jobs and capital investment. We will continue to work with our regional partners to secure future investments while maintaining an award-winning quality of life.” shared Sharon Butts, Associate Director, South Western Kentucky EDC.
