The South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council (SWK EDC) is excited to announce that two additional industrial sites have been deemed “Shovel Ready” by the State of Kentucky adding to the region’s existing shovel ready site inventory.  The SWK’s two newest “Shovel Ready” sites, both in Christian County, Kentucky, are the 1300-acre rail served Commerce Park II site and Commerce Park I 30-acre site.

Among the criteria for “Shovel Ready” is the site must be owned/controlled by an economic development organization, has all due diligence complete, has all utilities on site, and is zoned/ planned to be zoned appropriately for industrial use.

Commerce Park II is a 1300-acre dividable site with CSX rail served access, great proximity to I-24 and I-169, due diligence completed, all utilities to site, access to a young, diverse, and growing workforce, and ready to be sold and developed for one or more end users with emphasis in agriculture, automotive, defense and aerospace, advanced manufacturing, distribution and logistics.

Commerce Park I 30-acre site has incredible access to four-lane HWY 41, great proximity to I-24 and I-169, all due diligence completed, all utilities to site, access to a young, diverse, and growing workforce, and ready to be sold and developed with an emphasis in agriculture, automotive, defense and aerospace, advanced manufacturing, distribution and logistics.

Sharon Butts, Associate Director, shared, “Our newest “Shovel Ready” sites join a growing inventory of “Shovel Ready” options including the Cadiz I-24 Business Park and Hopkinsville Industrial Park’s 15-acre site.  In addition, we continue to partner with the regional industrial development foundations and organizations to continue seeking opportunities for “Shovel Ready” sites including sites in Todd County and additional sites in Christian and Trigg Counties, Kentucky.  We hope to make additional shovel ready announcements in the not too distant future!”

SWK Executive Director Carter Hendricks commented, “We are excited to add two new shovel ready sites to our product inventory.  We recognize that land and product development are key strategies of our “GR2W” initiative which is a comprehensive effort to ensure that SWK communities are “getting ready to win” by focusing on infrastructure, workforce, quality of life, and product development.  Having more shovel ready sites gives us more opportunities to win in economic development which leads to more jobs and opportunities for our regional residents and small businesses!”
